2 Peter 3:11-13 says:
"Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells."
Wow! I love how God’s word remains relevant over time and speaks to me at just the right moments. God forewarns us of what is coming, which allows us to live lives of fearful expectation of what the future WILL bring. Verses 14-15a say:
"Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation..."
When we listen to teachers talk about the unfulfilled prophecy, I know I struggle sometimes with confusion. But, it appears from the following scripture verses, I am in good company. Verses 15b-16 say:
"—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction..."
It does not appear much has changed over the years. People still try to distort God’s Word. It is so, so important that we always read His word literally and in context. If, we take our time and truly ingest His Word, we usually find that scripture interprets scripture. Where we are not provided a clear answer, God just may be telling us the same thing He said to the disciples in Acts 1:6-7 when they asked about the timing of His coming Kingdom:
“So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority."
This I know, that every fulfilled prophecy was fulfilled right on time with 100% accuracy! And I also know from scripture that nothing will change God’s time clock. He has set future events for specific times and nothing will alter that!
One example we find in Revelation 9:15:
"And the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released, so that they would kill a third of mankind."
So as you can see, this future event is already set “in stone” on God’s prophetic calendar. Therefore, every event before and after are also set for specific times.
Focus on today, on what God has laid out for you and your role in His program. Pray that you will not miss any opportunity to share the Gospel of Christ with friends, family, and co-workers! Be excited about what God has in store for your future and rest in His grace and mercy. If we do that, I really believe we will experience that “peace that surpasses all understanding” (Phil. 4:7).
