So what does it mean to be sealed by God? The word sealed in the New Testament comes from a Greek word that means “to stamp with a private mark” in the interest of keeping something secret or protecting or preserving the sealed object.
Jesus Christ bore the seal of God. John 6:27 says:
"Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal.”
Those who trust in Jesus possess the seal of God, which is the Holy Spirit living in you. That promise is further stated in the four verses below:
"Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God, who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge." —2 Corinthians 1:21-22
"In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise."—Ephesians 1:13
"Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption." —Ephesians 4:30
"Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.”—2 Timothy 2:19
Wow what an awesome promise for believers. You were sealed by God, for God, with God. As a matter of fact we are held in the double grip of God the Father and God the Son. John 10:28-29 says:
"and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand."
We can take comfort in these words. My prayer for each of you is that you would internal these verses and bring them to the forefront of you thoughts daily. And for those who have not yet been sealed by God, I implore you today to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved!
