I shared before how the Holy Spirit is always praying for us with groanings that words can not express and Jesus himself is at the right hand of God the Father making intercession for us as well. You can find this detailed in Romans 8. What I wanted to share with you today is an example of how Jesus prays for us. Before going to the cross you can read how Jesus not only prayed for the disciples that were with Him at that time, but also prayed for every future disciple. John 17:9-12, 15-19 says:
"I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom You have given Me; for they are Yours; and all things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I have been glorified in them. I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are. While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me; and I guarded them and not one of them perished but the son of perdition, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled. I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth."
And finally, Jesus finishes by praying specifically for His future disciples in verse 20-21:
"I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me."
What an awesome reality for every child of God. But understand, in order to be included, you must first "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ" and you will be saved. That is the promise found in Act 16:31. I leave you with this, as a believer, praise Him with unceasing praise for who He is, what He did, and continues to do for you daily. As an unbeliever, today is the day for salvation, don't wait a second longer!
In Christ,
Rohn
